His After Story - Chapter 1

The core spoke to himself, drifting through space as he had done for about four months.

"Yeah. This is...wonderful. No rails to tell me where to go. Nobody to plug me into walls or portal me around or crush me or blow me up. Yeah, I tell ya pal, this is great. Absolutely lovely."

"I'm in space."

"Yeah, yeah, I know you are mate. We're both in space. Like I keep telling you."

"Spaaaace!"

"Alright, give it a rest!"

Just then, the sphere heard a low rumble. Maybe he could get out of this somehow.
"Hey," he shouted. "Over here! Hey!" As a large, white and oblong spacecraft made its way into view, the core blinked with excitement.
"Hey! Over here!!" The ship passed by him, slowing to a halt as he could faintly make out the shapes of actual humans.
'Humans!' He thought. 'I havn't seen them in so long! I hope they're from Aperture!' And his hopes were confirmed as the Aperture laboratories logo appeared in bright paint on the side. He had heard of another, space laboratory, but thought it to be a myth.
"Hey!! Could you let me on!? Please!? I'll be good! I-I promise!" He wanted to delete the memory of what had happened, but never could bring himself to. His pleas for help must have been heard because he found himself being pulled into the craft.

"So. What are you? What do you call yourself?" The apperant captain of the craft questioned the core.

"Name's Wheatley." His British accent was thick, apperantly baffeling the crew of

the ship. "What's the name of this craft?"

"We have no name other than the Aperture Orbiting Laboratories. Now, will you kindly

explain what you are useful for, or should we send you back into space?"

"Well," Wheatley started as crew members started to attach him to a matinance rail. "I was in charge of the test subjects down on Earth. I'm great with hacking and not too bad at keeping order in said test subjects."

"Alright then, Wheatley. We may have a job for you."

The captain led Wheatley into a chamber, walls lined with glass chambers. Inside were some of the strangest creations he had ever seen. Half animal, half human, this was obviously a DNA and RNA test. He saw an eagle hybrid, a lizard hybrid, even a deer hybrid. All named with numbers. The one Wheatley was drawn to, however, was simply labled "013". Half domestic feline and half human female, she was the most developed of the experiments.

"You'll be in charge of this one. 013. She needs constant supervision, and we don't have enough staff to constantly watch her. That's where you come in. We need you to watch her, Wheatley."

"Constant supervision? Why? She doesn't seem to be a handfull."

"You'll see." That was the last words of the captain as he exited the room, leaving Wheatley to his new duties.
